Nepali Church

It is an urgent hour for the Church in Nepal. The living conditions in Nepal are a day to day battle for survival for most of the population. They have been mired in the Hindu religion for generations and the government is largely corrupt as they intentionally repress their people to maintain control. Economically, it is extremely challenging. The average wage is 3-5 dollars per day. The nation doesn’t have many natural resources and exports very little product; which means they need to import most goods, and the government imposes a 200-300% import tax on all imported goods. The product they do manufacture requires raw goods to be imported and are subject to the import tax, which means construction isn’t much less costly than the US. Combine all the factors and the economic situation for most of the population is rather hopeless. The Church in Nepal has a great opportunity to reach the unreached people in their nation and bring hope to the hopeless but face many challenges. The government desires to keep Hinduism as the religion of the people and intentionally repress Christianity and their people. The officials have seen the positive effects of Christianity which is often visible by transformation in peoples lives, their communities, and visible economic growth. We may see those as tremendous positives, however, it threatens their position of power so they have been increasing restrictions and regulations on the Church. The Church pastors and leaders face jail time if caught in violation of the government restrictions, and without outside funding, are unable to bring economic hope and stability to their leaders and their congregations.

Our Partners

Due to security reasons, we can only share limited information about our partners. Mr. V. came to Nepal as missionary from India in 1994 and married Mrs. V. shortly thereafter. They had a strong call to ministry and began serving immediately. Within 6 months of their marriage, they had 2 foster children living with them in their home and they served their community faithfully as the Lord directed. Mr. V. is a man of vision and they continued to grow and expand their relational network over the past 30 years. They currently have (4) primary areas of ministry focus. They had several key supporters/partners from the US over the years but (2) leaders passed away and (1) non-profit closed since 2020. The Lord has been faithful in orchestrating new connections including our journey of getting connected with them.

Church Planting

They employ an apostolic approach to church planting. The childrens home, bible college, and home church provide an abundance of opportunities to disciple young people and develop leaders. As these relationships deepen and trust is established, they empower them to serve local churches in various roles. This includes pastoral roles due to transitions for older pastors or planting new churches throughout southern Nepal, including remote villages in the mountains. With the economic situation, most churches are unable to support their pastor financially so they provide monthly support to the pastors in their relational network. Many pastors live on 150.00 per month and even that requires tremendous faith by our partners and their leadership to provide. Financial partners (typically outside of the country) are critical to the churches survival and expansion. Mr. V. is very adverse to discussing numbers in relation to ministry but we extracted they planted around 30 churches.

Bible College

They started a bible college in 2008 to educate and develop young leaders. With the generational bondage to the Hindu religion and the sacrificial system in Nepal, new believers and the Church are especially susceptible to false doctrine and teaching. This means instilling a strong foundation on the Word of God is especially essential for their young people. The college is all inclusive as the students live and eat meals on the main church property for the duration of the 2 year school. They typically have 10-12 students per graduating class which means they have 20-24 students living onsite. The students must be fully devoted to the Lords call on their life as bible degrees are not recognized in Nepal outside of the Church. Our partners invest wholeheartedly into their students for 2 years and have a challenge finding enough financial resources to provide roles for them in their network of churches. This means some of them leave the country so they can earn income to send back for their extended families which is understandable yet painful after all they invested in them. Their goal is to keep planting churches by empowering their graduates in church roles.

Home Church

Our partners pastor their home church in their local community. It is a very large church for Nepal and functions as a regional hub (think apostolic equipping center). Mr. V. felt a clear direction from the Lord to build a new building that has capacity for 1,000 people (most Nepali congregations are 20-100 people) and they are completing the finishing touches on the building. Flashpoint Missions was a key partner for the final stages of the project. Their congregation is around 200 people currently but they have vision and faith to grow it exponentially with new converts. They also host gatherings for their relational network of leaders, conferences for the region, and bible college graduations. There are many stories of the Lord’s provision for them as they have taken one step of faith at a time.

Childrens Home

With the economic challenges and physical dangers of Nepal, there are many children in vulnerable situations; including but not limited to orphans. Mr. and Mrs. V. have served as father and mother to many children over the years as they have provided a safe and loving home for vulnerable children for the past 30 years. They began by utilizing their personal home and have grown to several buildings with dedicated staff and are a recognized NGO by the government that must adhere to many regulations. They provide a home for 30-35 children which is down from the 100 children at its peak when they had more financial support. There are many childrens homes in economically challenged nations, while many of them are doing a great work, the often untold reality is that many of them function as correctional institutions or as a poster child for fundraising for other projects. We are inspired by the environment at this home. It feels like a true family and is evident by adults that grew up there still coming to visit “home” and calling Mr. and Mrs. V. dad and mom, they remain a part of an extended loving family for life.

Opportunity – Pastor Support

We are excited to partner with them and invest in their vision! We are starting by offering monthly pastoral support and anticipate funding initiatives for their main areas of ministry in the future. You are invited to make a difference today by investing 150.00 each month to support a Nepali pastor. We will send the funds to them each month and they will distribute them to the pastor you are supporting when they come to the main church and provide their monthly report to leadership. Our goal is to obtain a quarterly update from them so you can hear what the Lord is doing in their lives and have updated prayer requests. We do ask that you make a 12 month minimum commitment as these pastors will be planting or leading churches based upon this support. The easiest way to do this is setup monthly giving online.
